I have been working with logo and graphic design projects since 1983.
My first experiences were in a sign shop in Barre, VT before computers
were mainstream and I was fortunate to apprentice sign painters
and designers who had been in the business for 30 years.
I learned how to hand letter and created sign layouts by hand drawing
and pouncing. One of the layouts was over 50 feet long!
I eventually purchased a computer and have gone on to do
more than sign work in this field. Currently, part of my work life
is involved with a sportswear imprinting/embroidery company which
provides me with steady work laying out event designs for tee shirts and more.
I usually work-up 3-6 rough proposals(variations on these at times)
and then finalize one layout according to the client's input. The third example shown
demonstrates that process well. I did this logo for Dartmouth Cross Country
Ski Center in 2003. Further examples show some work done for the VT100
Ultra Run in 2008, taking it to a few tee shirt design considerations
for this year's event. I have been involved with both the VT100
and VT50 for several years developing event designs. Other proposals
have been for CRUZAN Rum, some for Eastern Mountain Sports,
and many others... too many to post.
On this site I will show projects which I think visually explain
HOW I work more than just end results.

Occasionally sign work crosses my path, but because I still
paint and letter by hand rather than using vinyl cut graphics,
my opportunities are limited. Just as with logo work, I present a
series of quick/rough layouts to a client and go from there.
The following two images were concepts for a store in Jackson, NH,
which, had I gotten the job, planned to incorporate wood carving by
Justin into the final design.. The roughs never progressed to a
finished sign, but I was pleased with the work in general.
All sign structural compositions were original as well.

I recently started working on the following logo project when given the original
black and white layout(center page) from another source. I am showing the
following two sheets of roughs to give you an idea of the process
I follow to get my client their final product. We are now in phase
two of initial concepts as shown. Once a composition is chosen,
I will then revise it for better color, proportion and font selection.
