Sand Sculptures
Sculpture in any medium is a remarkable skill as well as an extraordinary event that results in an ability to transform something simple into a form that fits within a given medium through tools and visualization.
Sand sculpture is the oldest sculpting medium known to man. Its semi-permanent existence has been compared to life itself. The mystique of the "sand castle" has always been intriguing with its return from where it came by the hands of nature's own emotion; a rising tide.
The images below are sand sculptures done by Justin, as well as Kristie in some cases, for malls, fairs, trade shows, schools, and sand sculpting competitions. The outdoor pieces are often sprayed with a coating to harden their surfaces which weatherproofs them for a few months or longer. Indoor pieces will last indefinitely, even without a coating, as long as they are not touched. The "Burlington" picture is one of a castle made in 1997 which still stands today. The sand sculptures stay together because the sand is packed very hard in small layers at a time while the sand is wet or moist.
